C., THURSDAY, SEPT. 10, 1942 Advice to the Negroes Let’s give The Journal and Guide, evidently a wise journal $nd a good guide for the negro > jfee, a publication of Norfolk, Vift., this opportunity to utter some intensely sane and appro priate remarks on war problems faced by the people who are its constituents, under the editorial caption of “Let’s Win the War.” “ If the United Nations should be forced to make peace upon Hitler’s terms the greatest suf ferers would be the American negroes. A military stalemate that would find Hitler still short of his goal of world conquest, but which necessitated a negotiated peace, would be just as disastrous to American negroes. “ If there is a negotiated peace the pro-Fascist elements in Ameri ca will have the upper hand, and they are already girding them selves to administer to the negroes v aVAmerica a fate worse than that •iJ^ich befell the Jews in Germany and Poland. If America does not wm this war decisively, with Hitler on his knees and completely liquidated, there is no future for negroes in America. “ Any negro who does not real ize that is not intelligent. Any in formed negro who thinks that his condition in America under the Hitler dictated peace would be other than that of a slave—strip ped of all human rights—needs to sbe examined by a lunacy commis sion. “ A war in which the American white man is fighting to remain Continued on Back Page_ DRESS REVIEW HELD The Polk County 4-H Club Dress Review was held Tuesday at Green Creek. Winners from various sections of the county participated. First place was won by Miss Geneva Horne of Green Creek; second place by Miss Frances Jackson of Mill Spring1; third by Miss Vera Ledbetter of Sunny View. These three young ladies will accompany the Home Demonstration Agent, Miss Gladys Hamrick, to the district contest in Asheville to be held sometime in October. Miss Horne will represent Polk county. Bushwhackers Win First Game Softball Finals In the first game of a three game series the Bushwhackers de feated Soumerco 6 to 3 in a hard fought game Wednesday at Ad ams-Millis Park. The second game will be played today. If Bush whackers win, the series will he over. If Soumerco wins, there’ll be another game Friday to determ ine the winner. Soldiers To Dinner Have you made reservations through Mrs. F. P. Bacon, to en tertain soldiers in your home this coming Sunday. You may have one or more as guests for Sunday dinner and then turn them over to the community committee for the picnic supper at Harmon Field. Tryon Boy Scouts will cook their own supper tonight at the k school house grounds. Boys to bring a little kindling to build their own fires, and the food they want to cook. Time, 7 o’clock.
